After three years... an update!


So I dusted off Krnch and realized that I had an update ready to go a couple of years ago and I never did publish it.  I've updated it to the latest version of Unity, changed the oil, inflated the tyres, and uploaded it for your pleasure.  This version adds AI opponents - they're not too smart but they'll give you a game and can spice things up in a multiplayer match.  I've also turned off that awful CRT shader that was causing weird rendering problems on some machines.  I probably fixed some bugs too, I dunno.

Now that I've done that, I quite fancy dipping back into Krnch.  I feel like I've learned a lot in the past few years.  It'll need a pretty big refactor to support the features I'd like to add, though.  Still, better to get distracted by an old, never-quite-finished-to-my-satisfaction project than a brand-new, green-field sideproject, right?

The last time I updated this project, itch.io didn't have Devlogs and I just posted the update history to the main page.  Here it is for posterity:

What's new:

Build 4 (December 30th 2016)

  • Added coins.
  • Added stuff to buy with coins.
  • Fixed a ton of bugs!

Build 3 (July 14th 2016)

  • BUG FIX: You can now navigate menus and select vehicles with the left stick.
  • BUG FIX: Cancel button now works on the end-game confirmation menu.
  • Explosions are hot!
  • The machine gun is slightly less so!

Build 2 (July 13th 2016)

  • Exploding Barrels!
  • Random Cactus!
  • Allowing yourself to overheat will cause damage until cooled off.
  • Smoother camera zooming.
  • Vehicle selection screen.
  • New vehicle colours.
  • BUG FIX: Weapon heat not reset at start of new round.
  • BUG FIX: Explosions and wrecks rendered on top of cactus.
